Berrima District Old Machinery Club inc

Mission Statement:
  • To collect, restore and display old machinery
  • To pass onto younger members, the pride and ability of past generations of engineers, machinists and mechinal designers.
We may have tractors dated back to 1944, stationary engines from early 1900 to 1950s, plus a lot of noise and smell of yesteryears.

The Club was formed about 2 ½ years ago and has over 50 members, both men and women, covering all ages and including junior members as young as 12-14.  Because old engines are simple and not dependent on computer chips people can tinker and the engines are very visible, just like a big Meccano set. At the field days young guys just sit and watch in fascination.

At the club machines are individually owned and the members share the sourcing of parts and information. Some are machines from Australia and there are a couple of Howards in the club but the majority are manufactured in places like Leeds.

Over the years historic information and machines are being lost. Scrap metal dealers have taken a lot of the old machines as there was a lot of money in scrap and the race is on between the scrap dealers and the restorers.

Most restorers can’t afford steam because of the regulations requiring a steam ticket and boiler inspections. The majority of Berrima club machinery is kerosene, petrol or diesel.  Club displays even include old sewing machines.

The Berrima District Old Machinery Club gets together every couple of months for meetings. They also attend rallies and get together socially. There is always something to work towards and sometimes members go away for events for 3 or 4 weeks.

The next big events for the club are:
  • Robertson Spring Fair
  • National Tractor Trek & Club Rally, Taralga
  • Chevalier College Car Fest
