N scale layout

Report for Model Railway Group

The group consists of five regular members. We had a sad event this year when one of our members, Mark Simpson, died. He was a valued member of the group and we miss his input and contribution very much.

In the last year we have improved the operational efficiency of the main model in the Model Train Room. It is HO scale, runs well and receives very favourable comments from visitors. The model primarily depicts NSW railways. The model is fixed to the wall and is therefore not portable.

We are currently working on an N scale layout based on a British/European country scene. It is progressing well but slowly. We had to build legs to support the layout and it will be portable.

In addition, we recently bought another HO layout for $300. The layout would be valued at $600 at least. It does not yet have legs and it is intended to be portable.
The layout is “point-to-point” and depicts a marshalling yard area with a provision for a round-table and round house. We have not decided if it should be based on an Australian, American or some other setting but those decisions will be made later and hopefully work will commence once the N scale model mentioned above is complete.

The railway model group meets every week at this stage and is a source of great enjoyment for its members. The layouts will be an important contributor to the other attractions at RHRS and should provide some income.
