For big events like the Classic Car Day in autumn Bob Payne with his knowledge of the genre has been invaluable. He can get the message out to car clubs all over the state.
Other events calling for a special effort are the Spring Event and steam train visits which draw good patronage and we have the kiosk open and other displays. So there are about five times a year when we need to prepare special publicity. We pretty much follow the least cost most exposure outlets like the village newsletter, village Facebook page, our RHRS website and Facebook page. We create posters with the help of Anne in printing and design which we and other committee members put in shops, cafes, again with Anne and Neil's help, and the Information Centre in Mittagong. Flyers are always done which can be letter boxed if we have the time and commitment to walk the streets of the village. The Post Office would do this task in Robertson and Burrawang for a fee. Putting flyers in local motels, hotels, etc. in the region is also done.
Using free radio community announcements on the ABC Highlandsfm and Radio 2st gets the message out too. Signs and banners play an important role and if we need special wording, these can be designed and ordered online or the multi talented Anne can and has created eye catching banners. We endeavour to get signs and banners out as early as possible so that passing traffic gets repeated exposure to the event.
The general rule of thumb is to work with the committee to get good publicity but to be careful not to overspend which would negate the purpose of our various events which is to raise funds to keep RHRS viable. Although we have not reached the intensity of past years it is considered that publicity has been adequate to our needs.
